    One weird quirk of capitalism today is that most of the stuff being sold today is cheap garbage with gimmicks to get us to still buy them. If you want something of higher quality, you often have to spend more and forego the features that are hyped up by the Marketing Machine.

    Either that or you get an older thing that was built before The Cheapening started going full-force, as it'll outlast anything built today.

    Just finished replacing a shitty curtain rod from a furniture store with one I made myself. The shitty one was super flimsy, had the softest drywall anchors I've seen in a long time, and its adjustable nature meant that the curtain rings would get stuck in TWO places when moving the curtains. :/

    My homemade replacement was made from two 6 foot polished stainless steel tubes, joined with a mild steel sleeve expoxied in, then cut to the correct length. (I couldn't get any lengths longer than 6 feet.) I simply drilled holes through the ends, then used self-tapping Robertson screws to fasten the rod to the nearest (steel) studs beside the window. Lastly, I plugged both ends with JB Weld putty to keep anything from getting inside the tubes. :)

    Multi-speed transmissions actually make sense on high-performance vehicles. Yes they are harder to overspeed and stall than an ICE, but the torque curve of most electric motors starts high then slowly goes down. ICEs can have all kinds of different torque curves, but a lot of high-performance ones put more torque higher in the rev range An electric vehicle with a transmission designed to keep the revs of the motor low would let it pull much harder at higher speeds. 🤔
